Dear Parent / Guardian,
As an introduction to the Bryn Tawe and Gwyr Sixth Form Partnership we have organised an induction course at Trinity St David University in Carmarthen and Margam Park on Thursday and Friday, the 3rd and 4th of September. This will be a great opportunity for students to get to know each other and participate in team building exercises, in the hope of laying a secure foundation to their time in the Sixth Form. Bryn Tawe students will travel on Thursday to Trinity St David University campus in Carmarthen where a full and varied programme of events has been organised (please see attached programme of events). Students will stay overnight on the campus before departing on Friday morning to take part in specific team building exercises at Margam Park. The year 12 tutors will also attend the two day course giving a valuable opportunity for staff and students to get to know each other in preparation for a very busy academic year. If your son/daughter intends to join the Sixth Form we expect their attendance on the course as it is an invaluable opportunity for them to fully immerse themselves in Sixth Form life. The short lectures based on developing key academic skills and the various team building activities provide excellent preparation and a valuable start to their time in the Sixth Form.
The cost to attend will be £47 which includes all activities and transport arrangements, lunch and evening meal on Thursday, overnight stay (en-suite rooms) and breakfast on Friday morning at Trinity St David University campus. Students will need to bring their own packed lunch for Friday afternoon at Margam Park.
We will depart from Bryn Tawe at 09:00 on Thursday morning and will return by 15:20 on Friday afternoon.
I enclose further details regarding the course and a consent form which should be returned with a £20 deposit by Thursday, 20th of August (GCSE results day!). The university needs confirmation of numbers by late August. The balance of £27 is expected on Wednesday, 2nd of September. Many thanks for your co-operation.
Mr Ben Davies
Head of Sixth Form

During the Whitsun half term break, around 70 children from Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Bryn Tawe attended the Urdd Eisteddfod in Caerphilly. They were to compete in 22 competitions representing West Glamorgan in the national round of the festival. These competitions included the year 7 – 9 choir, the reciting group, the folk dancing group and the senior girls’ choir, to name but a few. They were very successful with 6 of the competitions reaching the stage, including Steffan Leonard who was competing in the recitation solo. Congratulations to all involved from Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Bryn Tawe.

We are pleased to present the option columns for September 2015.
Further information is available for each course in the Sixth Form Prospectus.
If you need any further advice, please contact Mr Ben Davies or Mr Carwyn Jenkins at the school. We look forward to seeing you on the GCSE results day on Thursday 20th of August, and back at Bryn Tawe studying in the Sixth Form.
After the recent Performing Shakespeare ESU National Finals Day, hosted by the ESU at Dartmouth House in London, warmest congratulations are in order for two of our pupils. Steffan and Manon were crowned the deserving winners of the best duologue category, beating competition from schools across England and Wales! Their energetic performance (from Shakespeare’s ‘Tempest’) had their audience laughing along with them and had their teacher, (and biggest fan) Mrs Naomi Tootill-Evans feeling immensely proud of their achievements. What’s more, each of the three prizes on offer was claimed by pupils in schools from South Wales.
